# XRPL fee and ledger

Use this skill to choose a transaction fee and to check ledger freshness. Read-only; the free routes need no authentication.

- Fees are decimal strings in drops; never convert them to floats.
- Check `meta.age_seconds` and `meta.stale`: a stale value is the last good one served while upstream nodes were failing.
